I am professionally trained in homeopathy and have been in practice since 2000. I graduated from the Ahmedabad Homeopathic Medical College, India in 1999. During my studies, I happened to have some health issues which were acute in nature. My teachers helped me with homeopathic remedies that helped tremendously, and this completely changed the way I looked at homeopathy and the health care system. It put everything in a new perspective. I started to move closer and closer to the field of natural medicine. Soon enough I began to help both my family and my friends through homeopathy. Eventually I ended up volunteering at Ananda Marga Homeopathic Clinic in Portland, OR. Later on I worked at Next Health Urgent Care in Virginia. I am grateful that I had the chance to receive a homeopathic education before I had my two healthy children. I was able to treat my children whenever they fell sick. Whenever we went to the doctor’s office, the pediatrician would always comment on how my children never seemed to get as sick as other children.

My passion is to help families reach their highest potential in healthy living. So, In recent years I’ve explored other natural fields in medicine such as CEASE Therapy, BACH flower remedies, Biochemic Cell Salts, the Chakra System, and Homeoprophylaxis. I also help families with coaching and counselling.

The field of Homeopathy is still developing with a lot of ongoing research on new remedies as well as the effect of Homeopathy on everyday life. I devote few hours every week to learn and explore how I can help my clients achieve the most healthful outcomes.

A Headache Case

A 35 yr. old female came to me in pain. Her chief complaint was a bursting headache that came on when she woke up. She described her pain as a bursting, throbbing pain with pressure on the eyes. The location of the pain was her forehead, all over her scalp and the back of her neck. She also described it as if there was something tied around her forehead and back of neck.  Hard pressure and head massage ameliorated the symptoms somewhat. The pain was so severe she was unable to sleep and also had some nausea.

She had been driving around the day before and forgot to take her sunglasses with her. She had also been up till late watching a movie the prior night.

She was given Gelsemium 30C and reported the pressure in her eyes had reduced but the headache was only slightly improved. She felt much better after the 30c was repeated within 15 mins. At this point she was sent home with instructions to take a Gelsemium 200c if the pain came back. A couple hours after getting home, the pain did recur but once she took the 200c dose the pain subsided in 10 mins and did not reappear. She was able to sleep through the night and woke up refreshed and happy.

Having always been interested in natural healing art, as well as benefiting from homeopathic treatment for my own health problems related to a weak immune system, I decided to pursue a holistic career. The prospect for change called when I moved to California in 2009 from Germany where I worked for eight years as an optometrist. Dealing with eye related problems gave me the opportunity to work closely with people and to get to know their health issues, but I had the feeling that wasn’t the only thing I could do in order to help people, nor the best way to develop my expertise in a career I love. Therefore I pursued studying homeopathy and massage therapy and became certified in both.

Practicing homeopathy for the last several years in the Bay Area has allowed me to improve my skillset to help people regain a greater balance in life, and inspire them towards developing a partnership with their own healing. In addition I can offer bilingual service in English and German.

Serving people as a homeopath and effectively treating their mental, emotional, and  physical ailments combined is like giving the gift of healing!

Migraine Case

A 21 year old woman comes in with heavy migraines. They don’t allow her to function at all due to the severity of the pain. There is a lot of tension. It is worse from movement, light, and the smell of cigarette smoke, which makes her nauseous to the point of vomiting. Sleeping deeply for long periods and smoking marijuana somewhat help to cope with the pain.

She describes in detail many environmental and physical sensitivities, and a history of mental and physical restlessness which had been treated with Ritalin in the past.

She states she has lots of anger, and says she gets first snarky but quickly progresses to loud screaming and getting really mean. This is a high level of anger. She also talks about protecting herself and holding it in.

Her digestion is troubling her.  She gets stomach pain almost every morning and gets really nauseated. Other than applying pressure to her abdomen which makes her feel a little bit better, only vomiting or using the bathroom really help. But once she passes stool, an incomplete feeling remains. Smoking cigarettes or drinking coffee makes it better and help her to go to the bathroom.

The remedy that cured her symptoms was Nux vomica, given in various LM potencies. Though not every case with a long history of allopathic drugging, combined with a continued dependency on stimulants requires Nux vomica, in her case all the keynotes pointed strongly to this remedy.  Once started on Nux vomica daily to counteract the other substances she indulged in, over time her dependency on these diminished greatly.  Her physical and mental symptoms improved tremendously so that she was able to find her focus in life again.

I was introduced to the world of natural healing in the 70’s, when a friend developed cancer. I was with her when her Oncologist told her there was nothing more that could be

done for her, and I was with her when she found a different type of doctor, who helped people through detoxifying diets.

People came to him for treatment who were very ill; standard medical care had not been able to help them. And even though I had never even heard of this concept, I saw an amazing improvement in their health through his treatment protocol. This was the first time I witnessed the power of the body to heal through the use of natural medicine. I was deeply affected by this and my career path was dramatically altered from that moment.

I was so intrigued that I started to work for this doctor, and it was in his office that I came across a catalogue to the National College of Naturopathic Medicine. I started my study of homeopathy with Robin Murphy while a student there and have never stopped learning.

Homeopathy has changed and grown enormously in the last thirty years and it’s important for me to keep up with all these changes. I became a Master Clinician in Homeopathy with Louis Klein, FSHom., and continue to study with several of the homeopaths “from the Bombay group”, as well as Jan Scholten for his method for minerals and plants.

While I have seen first hand the ability of homeopathy to affect change, I also use my naturopathic and acupuncture training in my practice. I have been attending conferences in the area of Functional Medicine for the past thirty years and apply that knowledge I have gained in treating my patients.

I have always believed it is possible to have a healthy and happy life and use all my integrative skills to help people achieve that for themselves.

MIGRANE CASE

Gail (name changed for privacy reasons) is a 65 year old woman with a history of hypothyroidism, fatigue and anxiety.  

Over a period of two months, she had developed the problem of migrane headaches. She described the pain as pressing, from the inside trying to get out, and better with pressure. She would go to bed, had to have the window slightly open, and actually wrap a long scarf around her head. 

I asked her about her appetite and her thirst and she said she would loose her appetite and found herself having intense nausea, for which she would drink ginger tea.

I then asked what was going on in her life for the past few weeks and she reported a large amount of stress from her work and wanting to take certain classes that were very difficult to obtain. She was feeling overwhelmed, unsupported at work and pressured to perform.

I gave her one dose of Arg-nit 30c. The next morning she reported that her headache was worse that night. In homeopathy, this is called the aggravation and is a sign that the remedy is working according to the Law of Similars. Simply stated, the symptoms displayed by the patient guide the homeopath to the remedy. The task of the homeopath is to match the total symptom picture and personality of the patient with the homeopathic remedy that displays those symptoms. Over the course of three weeks, she reported a gradual lessening of her migraines, both in severity and length of time between headaches. In homeopathy, this is referred to as the amelioration following the aggravation, and is a sign that the remedy is working. We will see how she progresses over the weeks to come.
