I have passion for homeopathy. I am blessed to be born in family of Homeopaths. My grandfather Dr. Hazara Singh Gill was great homeopath of his times. He did his M.B.H (Bachelor of Medicine in Homeopathy) from Punjab Homeopathic Medical College Lahore in 1925. That was the only homeopathic institution in Northern India at that time.
In early eighties, after graduating when I entered the profession; Homeopathy was still regarded as an ancient art, little better than faith healing, and practiced mainly by amateurs and retirees. It took me no time to recognize that Homeopathy would be the medical system of the future. I knew that journey may not be smooth for me as a professional Homeopath to bring it on par with conventional medicine by using technology to give it scientific backing. I strived incessantly to bring about the acceptance and legalization of Homeopathy in Punjab and India at national level. I was instrumental in getting the legal status to Homeopathy and standardization of education institutes all over the Punjab during my college years at MKH Medical College and Hospital Ludhiana, Punjab.
Armed with little more than a first class professional degree (D.H.M.S) and fierce determination, I took up the challenge of winning for Homeopathy the medical respect that it rightfully deserved. I have served for Punjab Government as a Homeopathic Medical officer for several years and I have been a strategic partner with Homeopathic Department of Punjab and Council of Homeopathic Medicine Punjab on many regulatory affairs. Today Homeopathy is viewed as a modern, progressive, efficient, safe and effective medical option in India and round the globe.
I have been practicing classic homeopathy for more than 20  years with great success. I started Homeopathicvibes, a consultancy based in Sunnyvale, California in 2009 in view of offering affordable services in Homeopathy.  I am maintaining my active memberships of California Homeopathic Medical Society and National Center for Homeopathy U.S.A for many years and been attending seminars and many activities in the field of Homeopathy in bay area and elsewhere. Recently I joined hands with B.A.H.A to get involved with more local activities.
I regularly write articles in regional Punjabi magazines about health and homeopathy. I have been invited to many local radio stations in bay area to talk about health and Homeopathy. I translated print material for Asian American Donor society few years ago and was selected for volunteer of quarter award.
Transparency in business and abiding by their fundamental principles has brought me a long way in developing and maintaining excellent relationship with my patients and clients. The commitment and dedication in providing them with the best services helped me to earn the reputation of a honest homeopath in bay area.
I am eager to assist patients who seek my consultation, healthcare providers, medical research organizations, health educators,  institutions, patient advocacy groups as well as regulatory authorities that are considering homeopathy as an integrative approach.
I offer Homeopathic consultancy to persons interested in choosing homeopathy as an alternative to traditional treatment or as a complementary to traditional treatment.  I offer preventive and classical homeopathic treatment modalities for allergic conditions related to skin and respiratory systems, bronchial asthma. I  offer management and  supportive therapy for Diabetes, pre-menopausal and menopausal syndromes, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and headaches of non-specific origin.

Travel and Homeopathy:
Travel sickness or Motion sickness is a sensation of unpleasant feeling which occurs when someone is traveling by car, bus, boat, plane, or train. Our sensory organs send mixed messages to the brain, causing dizziness, lightheadedness, and/or nausea. Some people learn early in their lives that they are prone to the condition. In majority of sufferers it leads to vomiting. Homeopathic remedies are capable of  preventing and treating. A person maintains balance with the help of signals sent by many parts of the body—for instance, the eyes and inner ears. Other sensory receptors in the legs and feet let the nervous system know what parts of the body are touching the ground or not. Conflicting signals can cause motion sickness. In an airplane travelers cannot see turbulence, but their bodies can feel it. The resulting confusion which can cause nausea or even vomiting.
Here are three most common remedies for motion sickness that I would like to highlight:
Cocculus Ind , Petroleum and Tabacum
These are the best known homeopathic remedies for motion sickness, whether it be from sea-, air-, or carsickness. In homeopathy, we select a remedy based upon the symptoms presenting. Each remedy has its known characteristics, and we seek to match a person’s symptoms with a remedy that relieves those symptoms.
Step one is to assess what symptoms a person is experiencing?
How are you feeling exactly ? For example, nausea, vomiting, dizziness(vertigo), disorientation, etc.
What makes symptom worst?
What gives you relief?
Any food or beverage appeal to you?
Other concomitants symptoms along with the motion sickness?
Your  remedy choice will be clear if you identify answers for questions above. The following are characteristic features of homeopathic remedies known to relieve motion sickness:
Cocculus Ind. Bad  nausea, vomiting with dizziness/vertigo (may also have headache). Desire to lie down. Nausea or dizziness from looking at moving objects or watching things out of a moving vehicle. Also nausea from the sight or smell of food – aversion to food. Better lying on side. Remedy has been used in cases of travel between different time zones when the symptoms match.
Petroleum: Nausea and dizziness with disorientation. Empty, hungry feeling in the stomach relieved by eating – desire to eat. Increased salivation. Cold perspiration. Better with warm and dry air. Pain in the back of head or neck.
Tabacum: Deathly nausea – feels wretched. Cold, clammy and pale with nausea. Motion sickness even from the least motion. Symptoms relieved by cold, fresh air. Also improved by uncovering the abdomen. Salivation and spitting increased. Aggravated by cigarette smoke. Closing eyes relieves symptoms a bit. Remedy known for relieving the classic symptoms of seasickness.

Case:
Patient Anita Prasad ( name changed) 40 years old female came to see me for my advice on her car sickness which she had it for years. She noticed her symptoms were getting bad to worst. Now happening even when she was the driving even on a flat and straight road on short trip. At some point that she had to stop the car and vomit. She has to take her teenage son for basket ball games around bay area. What made it worse was the fact that she was required  to drive almost every weekend as husband was usually travelling because of the work. As a result, her apprehension to driving grew more and more,  she also started to develop anxiety. She revealed that if she drives with window open she felt better. Her husband is a chain smoker. Based on fact I prescribed her Tabacum 6C.The results were good and the motion sickness had improved or diminished to some level but her anxiety did not improve. I then prescribed her Argentum Nit 30 to be taken on the days she was not driving and Tabacum while driving. Not only was her anxiety reduced to zero but there was no nauseas and no stopping on the way to vomit. She is not taking any Argentum Nit 30 anymore. She only carries Tabacum 6c with her and uses it whenever she needs it.
Access the important symptoms and larger picture of the discomfort when choosing the remedy. If one remedy do not provide relief after a few doses, stop it and try the next best choice.

Advances in Integrative Nanomedicine for Improving Infectious Disease Treatment in Public Health

Advances in Integrative Nanomedicine for Improving Infectious Disease Treatment in Public Health

INTRODUCTION: Infectious diseases present public health challenges worldwide. An emergingintegrative approach to treating infectious diseases is using nanoparticle (NP) forms of traditional and alternative medicines. Advantages of nanomedicine delivery methods include better disease targeting, especially for intracellular pathogens, ability to cross membranes and enter cells, longer duration drug action, reduced side effects, and cost savings from lower doses.

METHODS:

We searched Pubmed articles in English with keywords related to nanoparticles andnanomedicine. Nanotechnology terms were also combined with keywords for drug delivery, infectious diseases, herbs, antioxidants, homeopathy, and adaptation.

RESULTS:

NPs are very small forms of material substances, measuring 1-100 nanometers along at least one dimension. Compared with bulk forms, NPs' large ratio of surface-area-to-volume confers increased reactivity and adsorptive capacity, with unique electromagnetic, chemical, biological, and quantum properties. Nanotechnology uses natural botanical agents for green manufacturing of less toxic NPs.

DISCUSSION:

Nanoparticle herbs and nutriceuticals can treat infections via improved bioavailability and antiinflammatory, antioxidant, and immunomodulatory effects. Recent studies demonstrate that homeopathic medicines may contain source and/or silica nanoparticles because of their traditional manufacturing processes. Homeopathy, as a form of nanomedicine, has a promising history of treating epidemic infectious diseases, including malaria, leptospirosis and HIV/AIDS, in addition to acute upper respiratory infections. Adaptive changes in the host's complex networks underlie effects.

CONCLUSIONS:

Nanomedicine is integrative, blending modern technology with natural products to reduce toxicity and support immune function. Nanomedicine using traditional agents from alternative systems of medicine can facilitate progress in integrative public health approaches to infectious diseases.

I have been in private practice since 2003, serving the general population as well as particular communities such as: homeless and underserved women and children, LGBT communities, youth and people living on low incomes.
I have directed the student clinic at Berkeley Institute of Homeopathy and have provided services for Charlotte Maxwell, a free holistic health clinic for low income and indigent women with cancer. I am currently involved with Homeopathy for Health in Africa, a non-profit organization based in Tanzania, whose goal it is to relieve the suffering of people with HIV/AIDS using homeopathy.
Originally from New York City, I have lived in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1984. I attended Pacific Academy of Homeopathy in San Francisco and both attended and coordinated the Dynamis School for Advanced Homeopathy, an advanced international program for practitioners. I have studied under several master homeopaths over the years and earned my advanced degree as Practitioner of Classical Homeopathy (PCH) as an adjunct to my Certificate in Classical Homeopathy (CCH).

Travel and being outdoors are some of my greatest passions.  Finding ways to remain healthy and mindful while exploring the unknown has been something I’ve been trying to master since my love affair with homeopathy began.

Travel case
Several years ago, a client of mine returned from traveling India for several months.  While there, she awoke one morning to discover paralyzing pain in her neck and was unable to turn it in any direction.  By evening she felt dizzy, nausea, and sweaty.  The next day she decided to get muscle relaxers and promptly fainted at the pharmacy.  She was immediately taken to hospital where she was tested for an influenza complication that could have affected her brain.  Fortunately, that result came back negative.  She returned home full of muscle relaxers but no better.  Her doctor said it was a flu. When she did not feel better after two weeks, she came to me.

“I had shooting nerve pain in my neck.  It felt all right to hold neck upright but any other position was excruciating and I was anxious about getting home with that level of pain.  My hands and feet have since swollen up, right side is more painful.  My whole body is weak, achy and all I want to do is sleep.  Moving wrists and ankles is most painful but all my joints hurt to bend.  My fingers are swollen.  My neck feels better but I don’t have full range of movement yet and there is still a good amount of pain when I do turn it.

My joints are stiff when still and it’s hard to get them going.  At rest they are achy and dull; when they move they feel hot.  I can’t lift the tea kettle and driving is almost impossible.  I feel the worst before getting out of bed in the morning and then joints ease up a bit as I move around.  By the end of the day I’m exhausted, miserable, achy and discouraged.  I’m not comfortable in my body.  I feel better after a hot bath and wrapping up warmly.”

I prescribed Rhus-tox 30C in a split dose.

I did not speak with the client for almost two months, until she came back for a general check-in.  She stated incredulously, that her symptoms disappeared completely after about 10 days on the remedy.  She had since tested positive for Chikungunya, a viral disease transmitted by infected mosquitos.  It is somewhat common in India.  Contemporary health care states that while there is no cure for Chikungunya, most patients do eventually recover fully, but usually after several months or even years of joint pain.  Two doses of one of homeopathy’s most common remedies did the trick in 10 days.

I am a homeopathy and a metabolic balance coach with offices in Walnut Creek and Winters, CA. I am interested in helping women & men achieve their natural balance in health and wellness. I graduated from Pacific Academy of Homeopathy in San Francisco in 2006 and went on to train as a metabolic balance coach in 2011. Metabolic balance is a whole-foods approach to balancing a person's unique chemistry. I have found that a balanced metabolism helps remove inflammation and speed healing. Homeopathy and metabolic balance are the prefect pair to promote optimal health long term. This summer I have partnered with Amy Erez, Sugi Way Mentor to offer an introductory a program called Balanced Living http://myranissen.com/blog/findyourbalancewithbalancedliving-program.

Travel case and advice:
Don’t forget to pack Calendula lotion for relief from mild sunburn. Cantharis vesicatoria can be taken internally for severe sunburn that is burning and raw with large blisters.

Vacations are meant to be restorative, fun and relaxing. Why waste time dealing with motion sickness, jet lag, injuries or illness? Consider packing a homeopathic first aid kit before you hit the road!

Here is real life example of how homeopathy helped Heather (name changed to protect privacy) not lose out on vacation activities. Heather is a hard worker, loves parties, and overdoes drink and food, especially fatty, spicy foods that often lead to indigestion. Last quarter she exceeded her sales quota. Her company awarded her with a cruise.  Heather takes vacations seriously and took advantage of the social activities, free buffets, wine tasting, and fancy cocktails offered on board. After a while, she was not feeling so well. Her head felt woozy and she wondered if she was getting seasick. The persistent breeze on deck made her irritable. Heather said she felt nauseous, as if there was a stone pressing on her stomach, yet could not vomit. She had to lie down loosen her clothes. A traveling companion happen to have a homeopathic first aid kit and recognized that Heather needed a homeopathic remedy, Nux-vomica. After one or two doses, Heather was feeling much better and was able to return to the festivities.
A person needing the homeopathic remedy Nux-vomica tends to be an irritable, competitive, hardworking, executive type who is inclined to overindulge in eating and drinking. Due to the effects of overindulgence, they usually wake at 3 am and are unable to go back to sleep.  There is a tendency for constipation and nausea but they are unable to sufficiently relieve themselves and all symptoms are worse in the wind. Nux-vomica can be thought of as the remedy to antidote the effects of much overdoing, jet lag, and the ill-effects of eating unfamiliar foods while on vacation.
Examples of remedies that might be useful for travel is Arsenicum album is useful in the event of food poisoning. Arsenicum could be indicated for extreme restlessness with fears, burning pains, and severe abdominal cramping with nausea and vomiting.
Cocculus indicus and Ipecacuanha are great remedies for motion sickness. Ipecacuanha is indicated in nausea that seems to have no relief, while Cocculus alleviates vertigo.
